At first I was angered by this since I am opposed to taxing oil companies more just because people complain about the price of gas (expecially since margins are actually low in oil compared to other industries; being only about 10%). But what the democrats seem to be doing is repealing some tax breaks that the oil companies had and will end up costing them about 1.8B during the next year (17B over the next 10 yrs) and that money will be spent to subsidy alternative energy. Needless to say the republicans are against it and Bush will veto it if it ever hits his desk.
With this push for clean energy coming from both lobbyists and consumers there will be some big winners in that sector. At the moment it is hard to find any that are actually profitable but I will do a deeper look (and so should the person in charge of Oil / Energy sector) at possible candidates that will dominate the marketplace.
